Cbest Scoring

Good afternoon noon all,

I took the Cbest on Friday 12/9 and received the following unofficial scores:

Math - 52
Reading - 50

And am awaiting the results for the writing section. Can someone please help me decipher what thesw scores mean? Ive tried to do the research on my own, but I continually find the same nonsensical (to me) information. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you!

Essay Structures

Hi all,

I have a question regarding to the essay portion of the CBEST test. When I reviewed the practice/sample essay that they prodivided on the website, I noticed that the ones with raw score of 3 and 4 don't have an organized paragraph structures or have met the word count. (I could be wrong but that's why I'm asking).

Take, for instance, the first essay for topic 1.
It has 3 long body paragraphs and a conclusion of 2 sentences... similar to the second essay (3 points).

VCLA Raw Scores???

Good Evening:

I'm new to the site. I took the VCLA this Friday and earned a 71% on the Reading subtest and a 91% on the Writing subtest. Unfortunately, I ran out of time and was unable to complete either of the essays (summary or argument.)
Are these passing scores? Will I be able to pass the Writing subtest without the essays?

Hello!

I recently took all three portions of the CBEST test and I need a little bit of help on scoring. I'm a terrible test taker, especially when it comes to math. I studied all three subjects for weeks before I took the test so I was pretty confident I'd at least get a minimum passing score. I understand you have to at least get a 37 in each subject so this is where I'm semi disheartened and confused with my scores. Scored Same Score On Writing But Diffrent Feedback

I passed both the reading and math sections the first time however scored a 33 on the writing.
The Feedback on the first try was
First Essay:
Needs improvment in Usage / Structures and Conventions
Second Essay
Needs improvment in Usage / Structures and Conventions

When I took just the writing section the 2nd time that I took the test my results were.
First Essay:
Passing
Second Essay:
Needs Improvment in Structures and Conventions

Does anybody have any tips on how to prepare for the FTCE GK Essay? I have failed by 1 point, 2 points and 1 point again. I do not know what I am doing wrong, so I need some pointers on how to pass. I am not the greatest speller or grammar expert but I highly doubt I would fail because of that. Anything would help.

Forgot to use word count!

I just completed the CBEST test and did well on math (78) and reading (80) but completely forgot to pay attention to the word count for the two essays. For each essay I wrote 5 paragraphs with 3 or 4 sentences in each. Is there a penalty if one goes over or under the word count? Thank you.

Difficulties Passing the VCLA

Has anyone had trouble passing the VCLA? I took the writing subtest and got an unofficial score of 82% on the multiple choice section. On the summaries, I did not do very well. I have taken the writing subtest three times. The first time I took the writing subtest, I failed the multiple choice, but did really well on the writing. Does anyone have any advice? I have taken the RVE, Praxis I, and Social Studies Praxis and passed all of those tests.

How hard is the Praxis® Core Academic Skills for Educators Tests (Praxis Core)?

I am thinking of going back to school for ESL K-12 certification at Rider University, NJ and apparently this is a new test for teacher prep programs. Did anyone take this test?


Right now, I am an aide in a 3rd grade class. Is there material from high school on this test?

Can't Pass the CBEST!

Hello,
I'm new to the forum. I've taken the CBEST 10 times and I can't pass it. My highest scaled scores are: 35 for Reading, 34 for Math, and 39 for Writing. I've taken the CBEST Practice Tests from the CBEST website. I've taken CBEST Prep Courses. I don't know what's wrong. Any advice you may want to give me would be greatly appreciated.

For those in Washington state, I'll be taking my WEST-B exam and wanted to seek some clarification on how the test timing works. They say on the site that you have 4 1/2-5 hours to take the whole thing. Does this mean you get to choose the order in which you take the sections? How to Tell Actual Test Time

I am not sure if I should post this in the other WEST-B related thread but I too am preparing for the WEST-B exam. My question is, how do you know how long the actual test time will be? With the WEST-B for example, in some places it is referenced as being a 4 and 1/2 hour test, the WEST-B site says you actually get 5 hours, and yet in my confirmation email from Pearson, it says "315 minutes" for the appointment length.

I assume some of the time is also designated for reviewing instructions...
